Food for the brainKeep your brain on top form with the lowdown of the right foods to boost your brainpower! Wholegrains: Research has shown that an intake of folic acid, vitamin B12 and B6, which can be found in a mix of wholegrain foods such as cereals, wheatbran, wheatgerm and wholewheat pasta, improves memory and recalling information. Oily Fish: The essential omega-3 fatty acids, found in oily fish, as well as walnut oil and flaxseeds (linseeds) are high in DHA – a fatty acid crucial to the health of our nervous system. Low DHA levels have been linked to a high risks of developing Alzheimer's disease and memory loss. Fish contains iodine, which is known to improve mental clarity. Sage: Sage has long had a reputation for improving memory and although most studies focus on sage as an essential oil, it could be worth adding fresh sage to your diet, too. |
